Phil Jackson is back in New York! After winning 2 championships with the Knicks as a player in 1970 and 1973, Phil Jackson, is back home, this time as President of Basketball Operations.
Jackson reportedly gave the Knicks a verbal agreement last Saturday, and now the lawyers are just working on finalizing the details of the contract. One sticking point in the recent negotiations revolved around Jackson’s living arrangements. The legendary coach lives in California with his fiancée, Lakers president Jeanie Buss, but Jackson is expected to live in New York during the season.
As President of Basketball Operations, Jackson’s first hurdle will be the herculean task of convincing Carmelo Anthony to re-sign with New York after his contract expires this summer. Hopefully he can fix the debacle in New York.
UPDATE: 3/14 – A press conference has been scheduled for tuesday (3/18) to introduce Phil Jackson as President of Basketball Operations.
