The enormous HBO hit, ‘Game of Thrones’ has been renewed for fifth and sixth seasons, it was announced on Monday.
Given the series’ critical and commercial success, the news comes as no surprise. This past Sunday’s Season 4 premiere was watched by an average of 6.6 million viewers, making it the premium channel’s most-watched telecast since the 2007 series finale of “The Sopranos.”
“Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. “[Producers] David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”
